Technology Scotland recently caught up with our member, GrantTree, for our Member Spotlight series. We find out about who GrantTree are and what they do, why they joined Technology Scotland, and much more! Take a look below and get to know them.

What does your organisation do?

GrantTree accelerates the success of innovative organisations by connecting them with R&D Tax Relief, innovation grants, loans, and other forms of growth funding.

Over the last 12 years, our team of 60 grant writers, PhD-level technical specialists, and tax consultants have helped more than 2,000 UK businesses and academic institutions secure over £400 million in non-dilutive finance. Our specialists have deep expertise in a range of technology sectors, including quantum computing, life sciences, software development, manufacturing, and artificial intelligence.

Each of our services is designed to be as streamlined as possible, allowing our clients to focus on what really matters: building their companies and completing their projects.

What is your organisation’s biggest achievement?

GrantTree has helped so many companies acquire the funding they need to take impactful technologies to market and reduce their reliance on equity raises that it would be difficult to single out one or even a handful of successes.

In recent years, we have been especially proud of the ongoing support we have provided to earlier-stage British businesses. By helping them tap valuable sources of non-dilutive funding, we have enabled these businesses to thrive in the challenging economic conditions posed by inflation, supply chain disruption, and the pandemic. We believe that the more support we offer UK innovators, the better off the country will be.

Another thing that makes us proud is our approach to working with companies. We always give sincere, actionable feedback about a business’s funding options, even if that means they don’t end up working with us. Companies regularly comment about the value they gain from having a conversation with our funding specialists, which is something our team finds very gratifying.

Tell us something exciting about your organisation

There is always something exciting happening at GrantTree. We like to think of ourselves as an innovative organisation in our own right, always looking for new ways to employ our tremendous technical, financial, and bid-writing expertise to the benefit of our clients.

For instance, we recently launched a service helping companies secure Innovate UK Innovation Loans, which offer up to £2 million to SMEs looking to commercialise later-stage technologies. Our Innovation Loans service – the only such offering on the market – makes excellent use of our decades of cumulative experience winning funding from Innovate UK while leveraging our brand-new risk unit.

We may be almost 13 years old, but we are nimble and ambitious as a younger consultancy, though we are also able to bring a lot more experience to the table.

Why did you join Technology Scotland?

Technology Scotland is a respected and active community of cutting-edge organisations working in photonics, mobility, and product design. These are exactly the kind of organisations GrantTree is equipped to support.

By joining Technology Scotland, we hope to help these businesses and academic institutions make full use of the generous funding options available, empowering them to accelerate their development work and make a tangible difference with their technologies.

With this in mind, we are happy to offer any member of Technology Scotland a free, no-commitment assessment of their eligibility for innovation grants, R&D Tax Relief, and early-stage debt.

In the case of innovation grants and loans, we can tell you not only whether you and your project would be eligible to submit a bid but also your likelihood of success, a key insight when deciding whether to invest several days in preparing a submission.

If you would like to book an assessment for your company, just email our Partnerships Manager, Veronica Munoz De Andrea, at [email protected].
