Technology Scotland recently caught up with our member, Photon Force, for our Member Spotlight series. We find out who Photon Force are, what they do, and much more! Take a look below and get to know them.

What does your organisation do?

Photon Force designs and manufactures single-photon sensitive cameras and sensors that are used worldwide to accelerate progress in fields including quantum optics, remote sensing, and novel photonics research.

Photon Force’s SPAD product line offers the highest-throughput single-photon-counting cameras on the market. Our growing product line has allowed early adopters to push boundaries in applications as wide-ranging as cancer research, brain-computer interfacing, and advanced LiDAR architectures able to sense objects hidden around corners or in scattering media.

The company is focused on growth, moving beyond the research lab and working with OEMs to see the technology designed into commercial and industrial systems.  The company has numerous ongoing R&D activities to meet the needs of commercial end-users, frequently collaborating with key partners to develop solutions to significant real-world problems, ranging from hydrogen leak detection sensors to advanced underwater cameras for inspection of subsea infrastructure.

What is your organisation’s biggest achievement?

Our camera has been incorporated into some life-changing technologies, helping to empower biomedical instruments used in the treatments of cancer and heart disease. We’re also thrilled to have fundraised more than £3.2 million in R&D funding that will help to create the next generation of products and technologies in photonics.

Tell us something exciting about your organisation

The team at Photon Force are excited to have recently designed, developed and fabricated our first 1D SPAD array. The new silicon contains our ultra-high speed TCSPC SPAD sensor technology in a 1D form factor optimised for a wide range of applications, from spectroscopy to LiDAR to provide high accuracy time-correlated single-photon measurements.
