Technology Scotland recently caught up with our member, i4 Product Design for our Member Spotlight series. We find out about who i4 Product Design are, what they do, and much more! Take a look below and get to know them.
What does your organisation do?
i4 Product Design (i4PD) is an employee-owned and design-led product development consultancy. The studio was established with the mission to create products that are both beautifully designed and beautifully engineered. Since then, we have grown the business into a multidisciplinary centre of excellence with 30 designers, innovators and engineers. We collaborate with our clients to add an extra dimension to their vision as they seek to bring new concepts and improved products to market.
The company is both ISO 9001 & 13485 certified and has completed 1000+ projects to date by providing our clients with additional industrial design, mechanical engineering, electronics, software and project management support. This enables i4pd to act as either a turnkey development partner (tasked with the complete development) or just augmenting what is missing within a client’s team, such as just mechanical or electronics.
Our tried and tested process yields a higher-than-average success rate for developments with the majority of i4PD’s business being repeat customers on new or next gen products.
What is your organisation’s biggest achievement?
We are proud to have employed 58 people in highly skilled roles and bring over £20 million in revenue to Scotland.
Tell us something exciting about your organisation
The consultancy recently celebrated its 20th year, cementing is position as Scotland’s most established product design consultancy (watch the celebration here). This year saw the company appoint and new MD (see interview here) and start work for the world’s largest medical device company as we expanded our team and service offering. We are back at exhibitions again and will have stands at both Hardware Pioneers in London and the Medtech Innovation Expo in Birmingham later this year.
Why did you join Technology Scotland?
We joined Technology Scotland since most of i4PD’s clients were already members and it was a great place to network. We were also big supporters of the Product Design Scotland group within Technology Scotland which has the objective of shaping and support government policy to promote the nation’s product design capabilities abroad.
