Technology Scotland recently caught up with our member, BetterPoints, for our Member Spotlight series. We find out about who BetterPoints are, what they do, and much more! Take a look below and get to know them.
What does your organisation do?
BetterPoints Ltd is a pioneering behaviour change technology company. Our app-centred programmes are used by businesses, local authorities and universities to stimulate behaviour that has a positive impact on transport, health, and the climate.
BetterPoints has helped councils in Angus, Falkirk, Glasgow, Renfrewshire, and South Lanarkshire to encourage active and sustainable transport.
What is your organisation’s biggest achievement?
BetterPoints has shifted tens of thousands of people to being more active or leaving their cars at home, motivating them to walk, wheel, cycle, take public transport, car-share or use car clubs instead.
The effect has been profound, with outcomes ranging from inactive people losing seven stone to habitual drivers getting rid of their cars altogether.
In 2023, BetterPoints programmes achieved an average 24 per cent reduction in short car journeys across nine trials, and as much as 39 per cent in one case.
Tell us something exciting about your organisation
BetterPoints is proud to be certified as a B Corporation, verifying that the company meets high standards for social and environmental impact, that it has made a legal commitment to stakeholder governance, and that it is demonstrating accountability and transparency.
Why did you join Technology Scotland?
BetterPoints joined Technology Scotland as part of its MaaS network. We see this as an important gateway to getting behaviour change and loyalty into the MaaS market in Scotland, and to valuable partnerships, particularly where they can support Transport Scotland’s commitment to increasing levels of walking, wheeling and cycling, and fully multi-model choices for residents.
