The Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade recently published their Metamaterials Commercialisation Roadmap: Building on UK Academic Research Excellence.
It sets out how the UK can connect, scale and focus its existing strengths in research, innovation infrastructure and emerging industry to realise the opportunities offered by metamaterials.
This new roadmap is an exciting and important milestone for the metamaterials community in the UK, and particularly for Scotland. With strengths spanning research, innovation and, advanced manufacturing, Scotland’s critical and enabling technologies sector is already well positioned to accelerate the commercial application of metamaterials, transforming leading academic research into scalable products and manufacturing opportunities.
Congratulations to Institute of Physics, Innovate UK, EPSRC, Dstl, National Physical Laboratory (NPL), and the Metamaterials Network on the publication of this roadmap in partnership with BIST.
It’s a topic we’re already exploring through our Metamaterials Special Interest Group, delivered in partnership with University of St Andrews, helping to strengthen connections across Scotland’s critical and enabling technologies ecosystem and identify opportunities for future collaboration.
