As we know from our 2017 Skills and Recruitment Survey, skills gaps are widely recognised within the Enabling Technology Sector. Therefore, Technology Scotland is calling on all members having difficulties recruiting for certain skill sets and roles to respond to a call for evidence from the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC).
In June 2018, the Government commissioned the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to carry out a full review of the composition of the Shortage Occupation List (SOL). The SOL comprises of occupations and job titles held to be in shortage either across the UK, or in Scotland only, where it would be sensible to fill through non-EEA migration.
The MAC is currently reviewing which jobs should be on this list in the future and wants to hear from businesses about their recruitment difficulties. The MAC will also be hosting a series of regional events around the UK, including Scotland, details of which will be published on the MAC website in due course.
Technology Scotland urges members to participate in this survey until 6th of January 2019 to make sure that the skills gaps within Scotland’s Enabling Technology Sector are being reflected in future Shortage Occupation Lists: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/shortage-occupation-list-2018-call-for-evidence
