Masterclass: Developing young talent

It is well understood that access to skills (recruitment, development, and retention) is a major barrier to growth within the technology and engineering sectors.

Recruiting young talent, those direct from education (from school through to university), is often a challenge, particularly for smaller organisations. Limited bandwidth often results in a tendency to seek experienced technical professionals who can ‘hit the ground running’ and provide positive impact in a short period of time. Such people are in short supply and come at increased cost, creating further challenge for smaller organisations. However, there are alternative approaches.

This masterclass, delivered in partnership between Technology Scotland and CeeD (Centre for Engineering Education & Development) , will focus on opportunities to efficiently develop young talent. Our expert panelists will discuss best practice approaches to nurturing new entrants to the jobs market and highlight some of the support available. Topics covered will include:

• Apprenticeship programmes

• Funding support for talent development

• Engagement with colleges and universities

• Skills development/training processes

• Company culture

Confirmed speakers:

• Mage Control Systems

• Skills Development Scotland

• University of Glasgow

• Developing the Young Workforce

• Santander
