The Technology Scotland team, through the Photonics Scotland network, are pleased to be hosting a shared stand for the first time at The European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) exhibition, taking place at the SEC Glasgow from 2nd – 4th October 2023.
Ahead of this exciting event we’re talking to our partners involved to find out some more about them, what they’ll be exhibiting and what they’re looking forward to at ECOC, and lots more.
This week, we’re talking with our member and partner, Chromacity.
Tell us a bit about your organisation and what you do
Chromacity design and manufacture a range of high-performance ultra-short pulse lasers for scientific and industrial communities worldwide. Our lasers, covering a large portion of the optical spectrum, are tailored to the specific requirements of our customers and offer a unique combination of power, stability and value for money. Our vision is to enable advances in the 4th industrial revolution by being a partner of choice for integrated optical solutions, in particular in the field of optical communications.
What attracted you to getting involved in the Technology Scotland stand at ECOC?
We were thrilled to learn that ECOC is organised in Glasgow this year. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to meet with new and existing customers and distributors from all over the world – the international dimension of the exhibition and conference is key for us considering that more than 80% of our activity relates to exports.
Showing face through Photonics Scotland is important to demonstrate that Chromacity is not an isolated Scottish company in the field of photonics and optical communications, but is part of a strong regional ecosystem. This strengthens our position to promote our products to international customers.
Why does representation of the Scottish cluster matter at international events like ECOC?
Unity is strength! Technology Scotland’s umbrella at international events support greatly the promotion of the “made in Scotland” technology. The synergies between our Scottish cluster and other clusters around the world are key to build technical partnerships with companies or experts from abroad, which ultimately allow us to accelerate our developments. These synergies are also a fantastic leaver to facilitate introductions to new customers.
What are you most looking forward to about ECOC?
To promote our Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO) technology, a unique broadband and tunable laser system that covers the optical communication bands. We receive more and more interest for our OPO from research institutes and industrial partners developing quantum communication capabilities. We invite everyone to stop at the Technology Scotland booth to talk with us about their laser requirements for such application.
What will you be exhibiting at the Technology Scotland stand and when can we find you there?
Our product range is well suited for integration with optical communication systems and present unique features to push the research and development of future telecommunication solutions. If you have an interest for ultrafast lasers emitting visible or infrared light, we likely have a product that fit your requirements. Meet our experts on Monday afternoon (October 2nd) and Wednesday afternoon (October 4th) on the Technology Scotland booth to discover the next generation of ultrafast lasers made in Scotland!
