SUMMARY:MaaS Scotland SIG: Data and Governance
DESCRIPTION:MaaS Scotland SIG: Data and Governance\nWednesday 23 March | 1000 – 1130 | Online  \nAbout our Data SIG \nData will be a key enabler for future MaaS solutions. From fares to scheduling\, traffic management to vehicle positioning\, data will support more informed travel choices and allow more efficient use of our transport assets. \nAgainst this backdrop\, questions must be asked to identify how data can best be used to support a more efficient and attractive transport network. \n• How do we best use data to support MaaS services? \n• How do we unlock the true value of data? \n• Who owns the data and who can access it? \n• What changes to legislation or regulation may be required to support data use? \n• How do we keep data secure? \n  \nAbout our Governance SIG \nThe direction of MaaS development and deployment will continue to be heavily influenced by regional and national policy instruments. If we are to realise the many benefits of MaaS then these instruments must encourage modal shift through supporting more accessible\, integrated\, affordable and environmentally friendly services. They must also be adapted in such a way as to continue to encourage private sector collaboration and investment. \nThis group will explore the role of good governance in the delivery of MaaS and will discuss areas including: \n• Policy alignment and maximising public value \n• Developing the public-private partnership \n• Delivery models \n• Regulation and licensing \n• Innovation and procurement \n  \nThis joint group will explore the issues detailed above and others with input from a diverse range of stakeholders from within the transport\, communications\, governance and data communities. \nNOTE: Places within these meetings will be limited and priority will be given to MaaS Scotland members. SUMMARY:Photonics for Space Special Interest Group: Meeting 5
DESCRIPTION:Photonics for Space Special Interest Group: Meeting 5 \nDate: Thursday 10 March \nTime: 0930 – 1100 \nVenue:  Technology and Innovation Centre\, University of Strathclyde \n  \nBackground: Photonics in the space sector \nFor over a century\, Scotland has been at the cutting edge of photonics innovation. With over 60 companies at the heart of the Scottish photonics cluster\, this ‘invisible technology’ underpins a vast range of vertical markets. One of these markets\, and a currently growing sector for Scotland\, is space. \nAlmost one fifth of all UK jobs in the space sector are based in Scotland. Scotland produces more small satellites than any other country in Europe\, and aims to be the first country in Europe to provide a complete solution for the manufacture and launch of small satellites\, supporting satellite and environmental data analysis and critical earth observation. \nTechnology Scotland in partnership with the Higgs Centre for Innovation\, is currently exploring ways to further highlight the role of photonics in the space sector\, with particular emphasis on supporting members to realise potential opportunities\, removing some of the stigmas surrounding barriers to the space sector\, signposting towards relevant funding and nurturing a community to help build an ecosystem for the space sector within Scotland. \n  \nObjectives of this Special Interest Group \nTechnology Scotland’s Photonics for Space Special Interest Group has an overarching goal to support its members to understand the opportunities that exist for photonics companies within the space sector. We recognise that this sector can be perceived as having barriers to entry; however there are potentially good opportunities for our members. Non-participation can often be attributed to a basic lack of knowledge relating to specific markets\, test requirements\, manufacturing considerations\, or regulatory frameworks. \nTechnology Scotland’s Photonics for Space Special Interest Group aims to allay these apprehensions by improving visibility of the potential opportunities and sharing the experience of those already operating in the local supply chain\, creating forums for knowledge exchange and collaboration and signposting to appropriate support. \n  \nMeeting 5 \nCome and join us for the first in-person meeting of the Photonics for Space Special Interest Group (SIG)\, taking place in the Technology and Innovation Centre\, Glasgow on Thursday 10th March 2022 from 09:30 – 11:00 followed by coffee and a chance to network with the other attendees until midday. \nThis meeting will be in a roundtable format to discuss what the membership want for the future direction of the SIG and its activities\, including for example\, how best to engage with Space Scotland and Scottish Government\, coordination of vision and strategy papers\, input to supply chain information exercises\, local and international representation of the SIG\, regular newsletters. \n  \nREGISTER TODAY

SUMMARY:MaaS Scotland SIG: Evaluation Processes and Frameworks
DESCRIPTION:MaaS Scotland SIG: Evaluation Processes and Frameworks\n Wednesday 2 March | 1000 – 1130 | Online  \nFourth meeting of the MaaS Scotland SIG exploring how we measure and capitalise on the success of early stage projects. \nAs the number of MaaS projects continues to grow around the world\, and as we begin to embark on our own MaaS programme through the MaaS Investment Fund in Scotland\, an important question comes into focus – what does success look like and how do we measure it? \nAnswering that question will be the key when building the business case for future MaaS upscale in Scotland. Not only must we fully understand the impact of early projects\, but we must also support the consolidation of data that will strengthen the case for future MaaS investment. \nThis group will examine how we measure and capitalise on the success of early stage projects and will discuss areas including: \n• Models\, processes and frameworks for evaluating impact \n• Systematic approach – comparing like with like \n• Policy alignment and maximising public value \n• Evidence consolidation and building a case for MaaS\nNOTE: Places within these meetings will be limited and priority will be given to MaaS Scotland members. SUMMARY:An introduction to DASA
DESCRIPTION:An introduction to DASA\n \nWhen: 22 February 2022 | 1030 – 1130 \nWhere: Online \nAbout: Technology Scotland have teamed up with DASA to provide an informative webinar on the opportunities that DASA can provide and how you can get involved. \nDo you have an idea that might benefit the Armed Forces and/or national security? Do you want 100% funding and to keep your IP? \nThe Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is part of the MOD and was launched in December 2016. DASA finds\, funds and exploits ideas that might benefit the Armed Forces and/or national security. \nTo date\, funding has been agreed for 71 projects in Scotland with a total value of £11.8m. \nDASA providers 100% full economic cost funding between TRL2 and TRL6. The innovator retains their intellectual property and DASA does not take equity in companies. All sizes of organisations are welcome to apply to DASA. Approximately 40% of innovators that apply to DASA have never worked with defence and/or security in the past so we are extremely interested in technology transfer from other sectors. It is easy when thinking about the MOD to consider that our needs are equipment related but it is important to recognise that the MOD is comprised of people and we need all of the resources that a city requires. \nIn this webinar\, Debra Carr (DASA Innovation Partner Scotland) and Anis Mourad (DASA Access to Mentoring and Finance Partner) will explain how DASA works and how to apply. \nREGISTER TODAY

SUMMARY:MaaS Scotland SIG: User and Stakeholder Engagement
DESCRIPTION:  \nMaaS Scotland SIG: User and Stakeholder Engagement\nWednesday 16 February | 1000 – 1130 | Online  \nThe fourth meeting of this MaaS Scotland SIG exploring user and stakeholder engagement in MaaS. \nThe development of MaaS is regularly discussed in terms of technical challenges or the relentless quest to find commercially viable business models for its delivery. However\, while this is understandable\, these conversations all too often neglect the ultimate measurement of success – user adoption. \nIn order to realise the many benefits of MaaS and drive the positive change we all believe it could bring\, we must ensure that the user and other stakeholders are brought with us on the journey\, ready to engage with solutions as they appear in our cities and rural areas. This requires a thorough understanding of the various stakeholders – what drives decision making and what are the expectations of a successful mobility solution? \nThis group will explore areas such as: \n• Bottom up approaches to MaaS delivery \n• User centred design and marketing and promotional tools towards success \n• Alignment with broader societal goals \nNOTE: Places within these meetings will be limited and priority will be given to MaaS Scotland members. SUMMARY:MaaS Scotland Special Interest Group: User and Stakeholder Engagement
DESCRIPTION:About this SIG:\n\n\nThe development of MaaS is regularly discussed in terms of technical challenges or the relentless quest to find commercially viable business models for its delivery. \nThis group will explore areas such as: \n\nBottom up approaches to MaaS delivery\nUser centred design and marketing and promotional tools towards success\nAlignment with broader societal goals\n\n\nNext meeting – 28th April – REGISTER TODAY \nFIND OUT MORE ABOUT THIS SIG AND PAST MEETINGS

SUMMARY:Photonics for Space Special Interest Group
DESCRIPTION:Photonics for Space Special Interest Group \nWednesday 24 March | 0930 – 1100 | Online \n  \n  \nBackground: Photonics in the space sector \nFor over a century\, Scotland has been at the cutting edge of photonics innovation. \n  \nObjectives of this Special Interest Group \nTechnology Scotland’s Photonics for Space Special Interest Group will have an overarching goal to support its members to understand the opportunities that exist for photonics companies within the space sector. \nIn this first meeting of the Photonics for Space Special Interest Group we shall set the scene for the potential opportunities within the space sector for photonics companies\, and give a brief overview of the support and potential funding available. The experience of some companies already working in the sector will also be shared before having a round-table discussion to gain a better understanding of what this Special Interest Group can do to smooth the route into the space sector for new entrants from the photonics industry. \n  \nREGISTER TODAY

SUMMARY:ONLINE EVENT – Navigating the Design to Manufacture Journey: Design Thinking and Systems Principles
DESCRIPTION:Design Thinking and Systems Principles \n1st July  12:00 – 13:00 \nThe last session in our 12-week series is about considering the challenges of navigating the design to manufacture journey holistically. \nWe underline the importance of thinking about inter-dependencies and gradually maturing information across integral decision areas rather than locking down decisions in a siloed and sequential fashion. A systems approach has been proven to help realise better results\, mitigate risks and reduce time and cost overruns. Some leading thinkers explore how these approaches can be applied to navigating the design to manufacture journey. \nSpeakers \n\nTristan Allen\, Room 44\n\n“Futureproofing and culturing an innovative mindset” \n\nNeil Stone\, LeapStone\, (Former head of Design\, British Airways)\n\n“Design led innovation” \n\nMartin Aston\, Brunel Challenge | Airbus\n\n“Systems Thinking for hardware start-ups” \n  \n  \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:ONLINE EVENT – Navigating the Design to Manufacture Journey: Building Supply Chains
DESCRIPTION:Building Supply Chains \n17th June  12:00 – 13:00 \nOne of the most common things we get asked is “can you help me find someone to manufacture x\, y\, z”. An accessible and affordable manufacturing process ought to be considered and planned early in the design journey. Often it is an after thought and this is an approach that creates problems. This session will explore how to think about scale up and\, importantly\, how to build the relationships to make it happen. \nSpeakers \n\nJay Bal\n\n“Hardware start-up supply chain development” \n\nPete Wood\, RS Components -Designspark\n\n“Thinking about low volume and prototyping whilst planning for beyond” \n\nReshoring UK – TBC.\n\n  \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:ONLINE EVENT – Navigating the Design to Manufacture Journey: Risks\, Regulation & Standards
DESCRIPTION:   Risks\, Regulation and Standards \n10th June  12:00 – 13:00 \nHardware development is fraught with risks. There is risk to the project inherent in the uncertainty of design and the progressive impact of changes made late in the process.  There is also responsibility on the developer to consider the efficacy and safety of the product through its life-cycle. Can it be manufactured and used as intended? Are there unintended consequences that due care could avoid? Regulations and standards exist to protect users and manufacturers as well as the hardware developers themselves. In this session\, we’ll hear about different challenges and approaches associated with risk\, regulation and standards. This is a broad topic and we will just scratch the surface but there will be an opportunity to ask questions during the Q&A session. \nSpeakers \n\nStuart Kelly\, Designer\, Systolic\n\n“Risk in product design” \n\nRory Ingram\, Product Realisation team lead\, AFRC\n\n“Thinking about regulation and risk in hardware development for high integrity sectors” \n\nAlasdair Walker\, Owner\, Lorit Consultancy\n\n“Creating a culture of safety” \nREGISTER
