DESCRIPTION:Do you want to solve an issue that is impacting your productivity and sales?\nIt might be a problem with product reliability\, manufacturability/cost of production or product lifetime. \nAnalysis for Innovators (A4I) is focused on helping individual companies solve such tricky\, and perhaps long running\, technical problems that affect existing processes\, products or services. \nA4I is a programme that gives UK businesses\, of any size\, access to cutting-edge R&D expertise and facilities to help solve analysis or measurement problems that they have been unable to tackle using standard technologies and techniques. As such it is a different type of programme from Innovate UK’s usual grant funding competitions. This programme’s aim is to boost a company’s productivity or competitiveness by helping companies work with the UK’s top scientists and facilities\, which are often otherwise inaccessible so they can address problems in new innovative ways. \nA4I is a partnership between Innovate UK\, as part of UK Research and Innovation\, and funding partners: the National Physical Laboratory (NPL)\, the National Measurement Laboratory at LGC (formerly known as the Laboratory of the Government Chemist)\, the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL) and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). \nInnovate UK expects to open the Fourth Round of this popular programme in late February with up to £4m of funding for industry. \nRegional Roadshow Events: KTN is running a series of roadshows at various venues in the UK to outline the details of A4I in advance of the competition opening. DESCRIPTION:Competition Details \nInnovate UK is to invest up to £19 million to support innovation that offers significant changes in productivity and cutting-edge innovation. The competition has 2 strands; strand 1 is for health and life sciences projects and strand 2 is for emerging and enabling technologies projects. A further £12 million is available to fund Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs). \nProjects under strand 1\, Health and Life Sciences must show significant innovation in one of these priority areas: \n1. Increasing agricultural productivity\n2. Improving food quality and sustainability\n3. Advanced therapies (cell and gene therapies)\n4. Precision medicine\n5. Medicines discovery\n6. Advanced biosciences \nThe aim of the competition under strand 2 emerging and enabling technologies is to help UK businesses broaden their innovation activities\, disrupt existing markets and find new revenue sources. Projects must show significant innovation in one of 4 priority areas: \n1. Emerging technologies (biofilms\, energy harvesting\, graphene\, new imaging technologies)\n2. Digital\n3. Enabling capabilities\, including electronics\, sensors and photonics (ESP)\, robotics and autonomous systems (RAS)\, creative economy and design\n4. DESCRIPTION:To maintain its world class capabilities in the years ahead the Royal Navy will require even greater industrial partnership and innovation throughout the supply chain.  This fact is recognised in the Defence Enterprise approach adopted in the Strategic Defence and Security Review published autumn 2015. \nThe Royal Navy plans to move its submarine capability to Faslane\, all 11 submarines will be based at HMNB Clyde from 2020 which will result in the number of people employed at the base rising from 6\,800 people to 8\,200 people. \nSponsored by Rear Admiral John Weale (Flag Officer Scotland and Northern Ireland and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Submarines)\, the Maritime Enterprise Innovation and Research activities aim to create an open forum for Navy\, Industry and Academia to collaborate and drive innovation through research. \nUniversity of Strathclyde supported the Royal Navy in hosting the inaugural Maritime Enterprise Innovation Conference Scotland on 8th December 2016.  The conference brought together c.275 delegates from the Royal Navy\, government\, academia and industry to discuss innovation and innovative ideas\, improve links and collaboration opportunities\, share Defence ways of working and highlight the growth of innovation in Scotland across Industry.  The conference speakers included Harriet Baldwin MP (Minister of Defence Procurement)\, Vice Admiral Jonathan Woodcock (Second Sea Lord & Deputy Chief of Naval Staff)\, Prof Sir Jim McDonald (University of Strathclyde Principal) and Prof Sir John Pethica (Science Foundation Ireland professor of material science at Trinity College\, Dublin\, Chief Scientific Advisor at the UK’s National Physical Laboratory). \nMEISC2017 will be held on the 24th January 2018 will have a theme of ‘The Underwater Environment’.  The conference aims to build on MEISC2016 and is being developed in conjunction with the Maritime Enterprise Innovation and Research partners and the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA).  MEISC aims to bring together Users\, SMEs\, Tier1 Industry partners\, DASA and Defence Innovation funding such that a clear exploitation path can be developed to solve/assist solving complex maritime problems in the underwater environment through creativity and collaboration. \nTo register interest and receive further details please email corporate-events@strath.ac.uk \n

DESCRIPTION:Technology Scotland is pleased to support Game Changers\, CENSIS and the National Physical Laboratory for the fourth and final challenge-led innovation event for 2017.\nGame Changers Explained \nThe decommissioning of the Sellafield site is anticipated to take over 100 years and cost in excess of £50bn. Decommissioning creates challenges never encountered before and requires investment in innovative technologies\, concepts and methods. Proposals for ‘Game Changers’ are invited to reduce costs\, reduce risk and make operations safer whilst accelerating the safe delivery of decommissioning. \nThe Game Changer Scheme welcomes your ideas.
