Quantum Technology Special Interest Group

The next meeting of our Quantum Technology Special Interest Group.

This morning session will focus on the entrepreneurial journey in quantum technologies, examining how pioneering research is transformed into ambitious start-ups and growing companies.

The discussion will look closely at the realities of moving from lab-based innovation to commercial project, including the early decisions founders must make, the challenges of building the right team, defining a market proposition, and demonstrating real-world value in a highly technical field.

Confirmed speakers

  • Robert GrahamCEO of Kelvin Quantum
  • Jack Brennan, CEO of Quantcore

Our speakers will share insights on their spin-out journeys, exploring the transition from academic research to company formation, the practical hurdles encountered in the early stages, and the process of seeking and securing investment to support growth.

The session will take a broader view of what it means to build a deep-tech start-up in Scotland’s evolving quantum ecosystem. It will consider how entrepreneurs identify commercial opportunity, engage with partners, refine their strategy, and position their businesses for long-term success.

The talks will be followed by a facilitated roundtable discussion designed to encourage open exchange between founders, researchers, industry representatives and ecosystem partners. Informal networking before and after the session will provide further opportunity to connect and continue the conversation.
