The Technology Strategy Board (Innovate UK) is the UK’s innovation agency. It is a non-departmental arms-length body sponsored by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

This annual report sets out the activities and achievements of the Technology Strategy Board (Innovate UK) from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017.

Since 2007, Innovate UK has invested around £2.2 billion in innovation, matched by £1.5 billion in industry funding – returning up to £16 billion to the economy. Helping companies start up and grow is an important part of Innovate UK role and it implies continuous change and improvements in the organisation itself. Some of these changes include simpler structure and processes, a new sector-based approach in supporting business, and fewer but broader competitions to make it easier for businesses to identify the best funding opportunity for them.
